Christopher “Fresh Kid Ice” Wong Won, founding member of pioneer Hip Hop group 2 Live Crew, is putting on for Florida in a major way with signing his artist Colin “Fame” Faiella to Chinaman Records.
Fame, whose name sounds extremely ambitious when you first hear it, actually began as an acronym.
“Seven years ago I had a lot of people disliking me and a lot of people weren’t for the music,” he explained. “So I basically tried to build myself from the ground up. I came up with [the name] ‘F.A.M.E.’, it originally meant ‘F’ all my enemies.”
The Cape Coral, FL. native is credited with many talents including rapping, producing and graphic designing. The 22-year-old MC has been performing for the past five years. Every year there is a new MC that is looking for success but Fame says his unique style is what separates him from the pack.
“I have a whole different sound in general,” he said. “I mix the old school with the new school so it’s totally a whole different sound. So that’s why me and Fresh Kid Ice, we link together to good with the ideas that I put together. And now with him in the mix, I think it’s a whole different sound and I’m coming for every audience.”
The meeting between Fame and Ice came as a result of pretty much being in the right place at the right time. Two years ago the two artists connected at a concert for which Fame was the opening act, just ahead of the 2 Live Crew. Fame’s lead single for his EP, Put A Cup On It was the song that caught Ice’s attention and got him interested in giving Fame a shot to live out his dreams on Chinaman Records.
“Basically it’s like every day I still can’t believe it,” Fame said about having inked a record deal. “Even when I’m with him I’m like ‘I can’t believe [that] I’m riding around with Fresh Kid Ice right now’. He’s a legend; he’s a Hip Hop legend. He started this stuff down here in Florida and really got the movement going and fought for his rights. It’s really crazy to be backed by him.”
Currently the two artists are anticipating getting back on the road this summer for another concert series; 80s Babies, 90s Kids Party Tour.
