Head down P poppin’ on a handstand! That is what most people think when it comes to pole dancing. Pole Felony Fitness aims to change that stigma one dance at a time.
“Some people do not look at it as fitness,” said studio owner, Fernande Henri. “Some people still see it as stripper practice or preparing to become a stripper, which it is not. So, it is more about convincing somebody that you do not have to be a stripper to pole dance. This is fitness, this is a workout.”
The fitness studio is based in Miami Gardens, 18970 NE 4th Ct, Miami, FL 33179 and has been around for about 2 1/2 years.
“I feel like more women should know about this,” Henri said. “It gives you confidence, it makes you feel better. I felt like I needed to spread the word.”
Henri said that most of her clients come to experience her classes alone but eventually they all become friends with each other. Booking with the studio is as simple as visiting their website and searching for the class schedule. Packages range from as low as $27 for the cardio, Twerkout to $190 for an unlimited month.
“I would like to tell women who are considering [pole dancing], I just want them to know, you are not going to break your neck,” she said. “We are not going to try those crazy tricks at the beginning. We are going to work and we are going to do baby steps. Also, a lot of women say that they need upper body strength so they can not do it. But the only way to gain upper body strength is pole dancing and to continue taking classes. It is all about consistency.”
